"The Scars of War" is a long-term documentary project investigating conflict-related sexual violence through a forensic lens. Rather than treating sexual violence as an isolated act, the project traces it as a weapon of war, examining physical, psychological, and social evidence left behind, and the systems, or lack thereof, that respond to it.

The project began in 2023 in Tigray, northern Ethiopia, in the aftermath of one of the most severe documented campaigns of conflict-related sexual violence in recent history. It later expanded to Ukraine, and is currently ongoing in Syria, following patterns of violence across different conflicts, geographies, and political contexts.

Combining photography, testimony, and forensic documentation, The Scars of War seeks to build a visual record that resists erasure, one that can support accountability while honoring the dignity of survivors.
